The Agatha Waltz

(Cincinnati, 1896)

Contemporary Description

This is a late-nineteenth century waltz sequence by Ross Granger, described in Kopp's American Prompter in 1896.

The Position

Facing partner, holding inside hands.

The Dance

Part I - "Grapevine" (4 Bars)

Slide left foot to side (1), close right foot behind (3), slide left foot to side (4), close right foot in front (6). (This is similar to a mirrored grapevine, but without actually crossing the feet.) Repeat, both turning to face LOD on the fourth step (1, 3, 4, 6).

Part II - Promenade and Chassé Waltz (4 Bars)

Facing LOD, walk two slow steps forward (1, 4). Then, facing partner, slide left to side (1), close right to side of left (3), and waltz around (around/between, side, close) (4, 5, 6), changing to new inside hands during the turn.

Repeat the whole sequence on the opposite foot (8 bars).

Then take closed position and waltz for 16 bars.

Repeat all 32 bars from the beginning.
